Sport-études
A Sport-Études program is an obvious choice for high school aged student-athletes who are recognized by a federation and who strive for excellence in a particular sport. For a brief explanation of the program, click HERE for English, et ICI pour Français!
Who? Only secondary school students, recognized by their sports federation, may enroll in a Sport-Études program subject to the admission requirements set by the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board (SWLSB).
Why? Student athlete is able to combine his education and his sport and have a better quality of life.
How? By enrolling in such a program, the student-athlete must expect that the pace required for learning will be faster than in regular programs because the amount of time spent in the classroom is lower. The student-athlete will have to work independently and seriously if he/she wants to succeed.

Eligibility
As of the 2018-2019 school year, the Sport-études program is designed for high performing athletes who are able to succeed with a regular academic course load presented in a shortened period of time. The Sport-études program allows students to combine high-level participation in a sport and a focus on academics, facilitating the achievement of excellence in both areas. This high-level program is recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement Supérieur (MEES) and is administered in conjunction with provincial sports federations. The Sport Federations involved have concluded protocols with the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board and Laval Junior Academy, local clubs and associations, and Le Ministère de l'Éducation et Enseignement Supérieur (MEES). Entrance criteria and practice requirements are set by the individual federations.
To be eligible for the LJA Sport-études program, athletes must be connected with one of the recognized Sports Federations. Further information on the Provincial Sport-études program can be found at the MEES website.
The primary requirements for admission and retention in the LJA The Sport-études program are:
- The student must be classified by a sports federation as an espoir, relève, excellence or élite athlete;
- The student must be eligible to attend a public English School in the province of Quebec;
- The student-athletes are subject to the same evaluation processes as all other students (ie. LJA Standards and Procedures, School Board Examinations, etc.)

Why sign up for our program? |
For several years now, Patinage Québec has been aware of the importance of the Apprentice-Athletes, Sport-études and Alliance Sport-études programs in the development of figure skating athletes. Indeed, these programs have allowed athletes to get a head start on athletes in other provinces where these programs do not exist. Athletes have the privilege of training at reasonable times while studying. The Apprentice-Athlete, Sport-études and Alliance Sport-études programs are not compulsory for figure skating athletes. On the other hand, they greatly facilitate the reconciliation of their sports and academic goals while promoting their entry into quality programs. Student-athletes thus maximize their chance to achieve their goals while ensuring them a balanced life. |

We are excited to announce that Laval Junior Academy & Laval Senior Academy will be hosting an open hockey evaluation on Tuesday, April 23rd, for all students interested in playing for one of our teams!
Our M18D1r and M15D2 teams participate in the provincial RSEQ hockey league, offering an elite environment that allows for significant time dedicated to improvement and development. With over 100 hours of practice (3 to 4 sessions per week), supplemented by off-ice training and a full hockey season, students are immersed in a program designed to enhance their skills while maintaining academic excellence. Furthermore, our Sport-études program, regulated by the Ministry of Education, ensures a balanced approach to both athletic and academic pursuits. Our M14D3 hockey team will benefit from the same environment.
